1) I did make it to Rachel Carson for the first time two weeks ago and observed the first period ESL class there. Because of the snow, I haven't been back yet, but hopefully this week I'll be able to get back on schedule.
2) Apparently the term school librarian and school library are officially "in" again. No more school media specialist and school media center. This is nice because when people ask me what I'm going to school for, I always tell them to be a school librarian; most people I talk to have no clue what a school media specialist is.
3) The President's proposed FY2011 budget does not include any specific funds for school libraries. I've been reading various discussions of the topic, and it's hard to tell what exactly this means for school libraries, but it doesn't sound good. For instance, The Unquiet Librarian makes it sound pretty bad. The American Association of School Libraries (AASL) recommends writing to representatives and senators to ask them to reject the proposed budget and to include school libraries in the increased education funds and Improving Literacy Through School Libraries program. I don't know if it will help, but I wrote to my senators already.

If anyone is interested in writing to their senators or representatives, AASL posted a sample letter you can use as a basis: http://connect.ala.org/files/12772/letter_to_the_editor_sample_for_president_s_budget_20785.pdf
