Book Review: The Cute Book

I recently got my hands on The Cute Book by Aranzi Aronzo (same author as the make cute baby stuff book). This book focuses entirely on tiny felt stuffed animals called "felt mascots." The skill level needed is pretty basic - basic embroidery stitches and hand sewing is all you need to do. The only materials needed for almost all of the patterns include: different colors of felt, embroidery floss, a needle, and a tiny bit of stuffing as well as scissors to cut out the pieces.

Although the actual patterns in the book are just for the little felt mascots, the back few pages have ideas for what you can do with them. For instance, you can put them on barrettes, make them into appliques, put them on key chains, increase the pattern size on a copier to make a larger stuffed animal, etc.

I found some of the instructions, especially if they show you how to make two different variations of the same mascot, a little confusing, but for the most part the instructions were very easy to follow, and they include drawings to illustrate each step in the process.

I made the white rabbit mascot, and then decided to make the head of another one into a hairbow (for Lila).

They have sample pages posted on the publisher's website if you want to take a look. The sample pages actually include the pattern I used to make the white rabbit. People have commented on that page as well, including pictures of their own creations from the book.
