It's the third week of classes, and I am both stressed out and not stressed out at the same time. Because of Monday being a holiday, I actually only have one class to attend this week, I did most of this week's homework over the weekend, and what homework I did have this week was fun and interesting, so in that way, this week is pretty calm and relaxing.
On the other hand, thinking about the upcoming assignments for my class about the instructional role of the information specialist is stressing me out. We have two major assignments that I just don't know how they're going to work.
The first one, due at the beginning of October, requires me to find a school librarian who will let me observe what the assignment alternately calls a "formal class" and an "instructional session." I e-mailed the librarians at Laura B.'s new school, so we'll see what they have to say, but until I have something scheduled, it's going to stress me out.
The big final assignment in the class will require me to find a school librarian who will actually let me teach a lesson in the school library and video tape it. At first I thought I could just teach anywhere (like for a home school group), and in the first class period the professor did say that worst case scenario we could get some friends together and video tape ourselves teaching them, but after looking at the school media assessment rubric for this assignment, school media students are assessed on whether or not we do this in a school library. I just can't picture a school librarian saying, "Sure, you can come teach a lesson in my library and video tape it. No problem."
Updated: Well, it looks like the two librarians at Farmwell Station are willing to work with me, so assuming they schedule any lessons that will work with my assignment between now and the end of September, I should have the first assignment taken care of at least.
